Senator Charles Schumer, D-NY has secured $500,000 in federal funding to begin construction on an “Industrial Hemp Germplasm Respository” (a seed bank), at Cornell Agritech in Geneva, NY.
A seed bank will aid researchers in “identifying pest-resistant and disease-resistant genes”. This will bring forth new varieties of hemp, as well as further our knowledge about the hemp crop as a whole.
This is a huge step forward in the hemp world! The more we understand about the plant and how it reacts with different environmental conditions is monumental in achieving new heights with the plant we all love.
